The sprung floor in the gym was suffering quite badly at the end of last term. The panels were seperating and coming apart at the seams, leaving great gaps for unwary feet, even with the covering of mats. Obviously something had to be done.
Over the holiday break the 50 x 75 mm timbers around the outside edges of the floor were removed and rejoined with mitred corners and locked joints, this time standing on their short sides so that the top edges were above the floor panels. The corners were reinforced with steel brackets. A further line of 50 x 50 mm timbers was glued, nailed and bolted to the inside of the outer frame to give an edge for the outer floor panels to rest on. The outside edges of the floor were bevelled to 45 degrees on the top edge and a matching v groove was cut into the top inside of the 50 x 75 mm outer frame to take the edges of the floor and to hold them in place so that any loading transferred to the wood of the frame and not to the holding down screws.
Each of the floor panels was inspected for loose and broken bolts and flat or displaced tennis balls. Then all the panel bolts were unscrewed and treated with Loc-Tite to prevent them from working loose again.
The floor was reassembled and the last corner joints cut to exact measurement. The whole thing was pulled together and tensioned with two high tensile steel wires running from side to side under the floor in each direction, terminating in four tensioning screws.
The resulting floor looks and feels wonderful.

Over the years we have always had problems with unpaid fees. No-one likes having to chase after overdue accounts, but the only alternative would seem to be to write them off as bad debts.
This is something that we can no longer afford. From here on in, the club's policy is, "No fees, no training".
For the next few weeks you will find the side door closed and locked. Enter through the front door into the foyer where there will be someone to check you in, collect enrolments and fees as need be and to direct you to your training group.
Access to the gym floor will be denied until fees are paid.

The club has been operating now in the new premises long enough for us to be able to make a comprehensive assessment of the income and expenditure associated with the new set-up.
Unfortunately we have found that the existing fees are insufficient to cover our costs and a new fee structure has had to be put in place.
New fees have been set on the basis of the club having 336 members (as against our present 260 some). We expect to reach this number in the the second half of the coming year.

The club sign is now firmly affixed to the ground next to the drive.
