The Howick Gymnastic Club has been in
existence since 1976 and concentrates on training girls and boys between pre-school to mid-teens in Introductory and Competitive Gymnastics up to
and including Level
3. Rhythmic Gymnastics and Advanced Trampolining are seen as areas for other, specialist, clubs and outside the scope of our activities, although we will offer Basic Trampolining.
The club is an incorporated society run voluntarily with
a president, secretary, treasurer and committee of up to four. The members of
the club are mostly the gymnasts, who each, because of their age, nominate an adult as their representative
and spokesperson for administrative purposes. Interested adults may also be members in their own right.
Affiliation is to the national body, Gymsport New
Training is conducted either by coaches who
are fully qualified by Gymsport NZ, or by junior
coaches undergoing the current Gymsport NZ two year training
scheme (C.I.T.). Four of the senior coaches are qualified Gymnastics judges.
The gymnasium is at 15 Ben Lomond Crescent, off Cascades Road, Pakuranga.
Gymnasts normally train for one hour, once
a week when beginning, and can progress to more hours as their abilities and
enthusiasm grow, and as their budgets permit.

Girls aged
7 to 9: 5.00 - 6.00 pm

Gymnasts training for one hour a week can elect to attend any one of the classes running during the week where class size permits.
Fees currently start at $120.00 a term for one hour a
week including an affiliation fee which is paid to Gymsport New
Club leotards and track suits are
available through the club but are only compulsory dress when taking part in
competitions. Otherwise, shorts and tee-shirt are acceptable, providing
there are no zips or buttons that may be hazardous. Long hair should be
tied back.
Safety is important and senior coaches
hold current First Aid certificates.
We try to make Gymnastics
enjoyable and fun - nobody should be pushed beyond their individual capacity. The emphasis is on the pleasure of physical activity and the achievement of new levels of skill, rather than on competitive performance. We want all our gymnasts to be happy in their sport and to retain their initial enthusiasm.
